Dear Ariels Family,
As I reflect on the past year, I ponder what it must have been like when Ariels was founded in 1930. Back then, the world was grappling with the onset of the Great Depression, and the young girls who took up netball likely witnessed their fathers, husbands, and brothers heading off to war. Despite the challenging times, these girls developed a deep love for netball and remained resilient. Today, we stand on their shoulders, continuing to build on their legacy over the next five years. Their dream of seeing new generations embrace netball is realised each week.
This year has been significant for Ariels, marked by both highs and lows. We proudly debuted our new uniforms, exuding style and sophistication. Although we “lost” our VNL License, 17 of our athletes signed on with VNL teams, affording them the opportunity to shine in higher competitions. Hosting our tournament for the first time on Netball Connect, 80 of our athletes represented us in Mildura, and 10 were selected for State Title teams. We implemented substantial changes in our selection and preseason processes, and to round out 2023 four teams reached finals, with the 15’2s clinching their premiership after an incredible season.
There is so much to be proud of.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to each athlete for their unwavering dedication, both on and off the court. To the parents who tirelessly sacrifice to help their children achieve their dreams—whether chauffeuring, coordinating tents, or providing encouragement—your efforts are truly amazing. A special acknowledgment to our team managers, the backbone of our team, for keeping things organised.
To our coaches, you are the best! Our program wouldn’t exist without your tireless efforts. Week after week, you selflessly give your time to help others fulfill their purpose. What better job is there?
As the saying goes, teamwork makes the dream work, and our Committee embodies that spirit. They consistently strive to prioritize our athletes and coaches, believing in each individual and eagerly anticipating our future direction. I am grateful for and proud of this team, and I extend my sincere thanks to each and every one of you.
Merry Christmas and here’s to the continued success and growth of Ariels in the years to come!
Warm regards,
Julie-Anne Le Nepveu
